People Are Only Now Figuring Out What The WC Toilet Sign Means

The letters “WC” on a toilet sign have long puzzled many, but the meaning is simple: WC stands for “water closet.”

This term dates back to the 1900s when indoor plumbing became common, and toilets were often installed in small closet spaces.

These areas with running water were dubbed “water closets.” Over time, the abbreviation stuck, even though most people now refer to them as bathrooms or restrooms.
