I’ve always prided myself on being thoughtful when it comes to gift-giving. This year, I wanted to go all out for my fiancé, Jake. He’d been talking about wanting a PS5 for months, and although it was expensive, I decided to make it happen. I scrimped, saved, and even cut back on personal expenses to surprise him.

On Christmas morning, I couldn’t wait to see his reaction. I envisioned his eyes lighting up with joy and gratitude when he unwrapped the sleek console. Little did I know, the day would take an unexpected turn.

A Crushing Disappointment

Jake’s gift for me was wrapped in a small, neatly tied box. I had a feeling it wasn’t going to be extravagant, but I wasn’t expecting extravagance—I was expecting thoughtfulness.
