How a Delivery Guy’s Note Led Me to Install Security Cameras Around My Home – I’ll Be Forever Grateful

A quick scribbled note on a delivery bag sent me rushing to the backyard, where I made a shocking discovery. The cryptic message from our regular delivery driver, Ravi, may have prevented a frightening situation, but it was clear the threat still loomed.

As a single mom, I often rely on food deliveries when I’m too worn out to cook for my kids. Over time, Ravi, our familiar delivery guy, became a friendly face we all recognized. He’d always exchange high-fives with my children, Kai and Isla, before leaving. But last Tuesday, something felt off.

Ravi arrived looking unusually tense. He handed me our food without saying a word, then hurried back to his car. I couldn’t help but feel uneasy.

“What’s wrong with Ravi?” Kai asked, peering out the window.

“I don’t know, maybe he’s in a rush,” I said, trying to brush it off as I watched his car drive away.

As I started putting the food on the counter, my mind kept going back to Ravi’s strange behavior. That’s when I noticed something scribbled on the back of the delivery bag. The handwriting was shaky, and the message sent a chill down my spine.

“CHECK YOUR TRASH CAN.”

My heart raced, but I tried to stay calm for the kids. “Why don’t you both wash up while I get dinner ready?” I suggested, ushering them out of the kitchen.

Once they were out of sight, I rushed to the backyard, my mind running wild. I approached the trash cans, my hands shaking as I opened the first one. Just the usual garbage. But when I opened the second can, I froze.

Wrapped in an old blanket, I found a bundle of gloves, a few small tools, and an unlabeled bottle containing a strange liquid. Panic gripped me.

“Mom? Are you okay?” Isla’s voice broke my thoughts.

I quickly shut the lid and forced a smile. “I’m fine, sweetie. Just checking something. Go inside; I’ll be right there.”

As soon as Isla was out of sight, I grabbed my phone and called the sheriff’s office.

“Sheriff’s Department, this is Leona speaking.”

“Leona, it’s Nora. I need you to come over immediately. I found something unsettling in my trash,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady.

She took it seriously. “Don’t touch anything. Stay inside with the kids. I’m on my way.”

Hanging up, fear took over. Our neighborhood had seen a string of break-ins, with similar signs—chemicals to weaken locks and meticulous clean-ups of evidence. The thought hit me: my house could be next.

“Mom, what’s wrong?” Kai asked, noticing my anxiety.

“Everything’s fine,” I replied, though my voice felt strained. “Let’s eat.”

Right as we began to eat, there was a knock on the door. I tensed up but felt a wave of relief when I saw Leona through the peephole.

“Stay here and finish eating,” I told the kids before stepping outside to talk to her.

I explained everything—Ravi’s strange note, his odd behavior, and what I had found in the trash. Leona listened intently and then scanned the area.

“You did the right thing by calling me,” she said. “I’ll have the contents of the trash analyzed. In the meantime, I strongly recommend increasing security. We’ll patrol tonight.”

That night, sleep didn’t come easily. I spent hours researching security systems, jumping at every little noise. By morning, I was exhausted but determined.

At 8 a.m., I called a security company. “I need cameras installed today,” I said urgently.

“Our earliest slot is next week—”

“No,” I interrupted. “Someone’s planning to break in. I need those cameras now.”

Her tone softened. “Let me see what I can do. Please hold.”

After what seemed like forever, she returned with good news. “A slot just opened. Our team can be there in two hours.”

The security team arrived, and as they worked, I paced, watching every car and person pass by, feeling increasingly uneasy. Just as they finished, Leona pulled into the driveway, her face grim.

“We need to talk inside,” she said.

I sent the kids to their rooms before sitting with her. “The lab results are in,” she said. “That liquid? It’s a strong corrosive, often used to weaken locks.”

My heart sank. “They were planning to break in.”

“It looks that way,” she confirmed. “But your actions have set things in motion. We’ll keep patrolling, and your security system is now in place.”

I saw Ravi arriving at a neighbor’s house and went to speak with him. He looked anxious, but I needed answers.

“I’m sorry about yesterday,” he began, “I saw some shady guys messing with your trash. I wanted to warn you, but I was afraid they might still be around.”

Relief flooded me. “So, that’s why you left the note?”

He nodded. “I’m sorry if I scared you.”

“Ravi, you may have saved us. Thank you,” I said, grateful beyond words.

That night, as I sat watching the security monitors, I knew one thing for sure: I wasn’t alone. Between Ravi’s quick thinking, Leona’s dedication, and my own determination, we had turned what could have been a tragedy into a story of vigilance and unexpected allies. All that remained was to stay alert and protect my family.
