Admission About His Party

California Senator Adam Schiff recently acknowledged that the rising cost of living played a significant role in the Democratic Party’s loss in the 2024 election. Speaking on ABC News’ This Week, Schiff reflected on the party’s campaign strategy, saying they missed an opportunity by not staying focused on everyday economic issues that affect working families.

During the interview, host Jonathan Karl raised the topic of disruptions during former President Donald Trump’s recent address to Congress. The interruptions, which drew criticism from within the Democratic Party itself, including Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman, were seen by some as a distraction from more pressing national concerns.

Schiff agreed that the incident took attention away from what should have been the core issue: affordability.

“We should have kept the focus on the cost of living,” Schiff said, adding that many Americans are still struggling to manage rising expenses for essentials like housing, healthcare, and childcare.

Inflation reached a high of 9 percent in mid-2022, affecting households across the country. Though it has since eased, many families continue to feel financial pressure. Schiff emphasized the need for more targeted solutions to help people manage everyday costs, regardless of political affiliation.

He also noted that neither party has fully addressed the long-term affordability challenges facing Americans. “People want to know how we’re going to make their lives easier. That’s the conversation we need to have,” Schiff said.

As attention turns toward the future, Schiff suggested that both lawmakers and candidates should concentrate on delivering practical solutions that address the financial concerns of average citizens.
