Questionable Donations

Federal authorities have opened an inquiry into campaign donations made to Texas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, following concerns about possible irregularities in contributions processed through the fundraising platform ActBlue.

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) confirmed that an investigation is underway after receiving a formal complaint from the Coolidge-Reagan Foundation, a nonprofit watchdog group. The complaint alleges that dozens of donations made in the name of a 73-year-old Texas resident may not have been authorized by the individual or his family.

“The FEC opened an investigation. There is a process, but they are investigating,” said Dan Backer, an attorney representing the group that filed the complaint.

The donations in question reportedly amount to $595 across 53 separate transactions. The allegations gained attention after a video surfaced showing the man’s wife stating she was unaware of the contributions.

This incident has sparked broader concerns about the integrity of small-dollar donations processed through online platforms. The complaint against Rep. Crockett’s campaign further noted that she has received over $870,000 through ActBlue, although it remains unclear how many of those donations could be affected.

Similar issues have been raised in other states. A previous review of FEC data by election integrity advocates found cases where elderly individuals were listed as having made hundreds or even thousands of donations over several years—amounting to tens of thousands of dollars—despite claims from those individuals that they had not contributed.

In response, some state officials have begun sharing findings with attorneys general in their respective jurisdictions for further examination. The FEC’s investigation into the Crockett campaign is still in its early stages, and no formal conclusions have been reached.

ActBlue has responded to past allegations by stating that it employs strong security measures and fraud prevention protocols to protect donors and ensure transparency.

As of now, neither Rep. Crockett nor her campaign has issued a statement regarding the investigation. The FEC has stated that all parties involved will be updated as the process moves forward.
