Qatar’s $400M Jet Gift to Trump Sparks Ethics Debate
A plan for the Trump administration to accept a $400 million luxury Boeing 747-8 jet from Qatar’s royal family is drawing criticism over ethical concerns. Nicknamed a “flying palace,” the aircraft could temporarily serve as Air Force One and later be donated to the Trump Presidential Library Foundation.
Though the gift would be made to the U.S., not Trump personally, critics call it inappropriate and liken it to “bribery on the highest level.”
Legal reviews by the DOJ and White House Counsel have cleared the move, citing no violations of bribery laws or the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause.
Still, public backlash continues, with many questioning the optics of accepting such a lavish gift from a foreign power. The situation highlights ongoing concerns about transparency and ethics in presidential conduct.
