New Travel Restrictions

On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, a new proclamation was issued restricting travel to the United States for nationals of several countries. The decision comes as part of a broader effort to enhance national security and ensure compliance with entry standards.

The full travel ban applies to nationals from 12 countries, including Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. Additionally, partial restrictions were introduced for citizens of Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.

The proclamation includes exceptions for individuals who are lawful permanent residents, hold existing valid visas, belong to specific visa categories, or whose entry is deemed beneficial to national interests.

Officials explained that the restrictions are specific to each country’s circumstances and are aimed at improving cooperation on issues such as identity verification, information sharing, and border security. For example, some countries were noted for lacking reliable passport systems, proper traveler screening procedures, or showing high rates of visa overstays.

Authorities emphasized that the travel measures are not permanent and may be revised as improvements are made.
