Joe Biden Diagnosed with Aggressive Prostate Cancer Following Routine Exam

Former U.S. President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, just days after a routine medical checkup revealed a small nodule in his prostate.

According to a statement from his personal office, Biden underwent further evaluation after experiencing increased urinary symptoms. Medical scans and tests confirmed the presence of prostate cancer, with a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5), indicating a high-grade and fast-growing form of the disease. The cancer has reportedly spread to the bone, but doctors say it remains hormone-sensitive — a positive sign for treatment options.

“The President and his family are currently reviewing treatment options with his medical team,” the statement said. While no further details were shared, sources have indicated that hormone therapy may be among the treatments considered.

The diagnosis came shortly after a small prostate nodule was identified during a routine physical. This finding led doctors to recommend more advanced imaging such as an MRI or transrectal ultrasound, along with a biopsy to assess the risk. The results revealed the seriousness of the condition.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers among men, with the American Cancer Society reporting that about 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed during their lifetime. It typically affects older individuals and is the second leading cause of cancer-related death among American men, behind lung cancer.

Although aggressive, prostate cancer that is hormone-sensitive can often be managed with medication, radiation, or surgery, depending on how far it has spread and how the patient responds to initial treatments.
