On August 27, 2025, what began as a peaceful student Mass at Annunciation Church in Minneapolis quickly turned into tragedy when a lone gunman opened fire inside the sanctuary.

Two children, aged 8 and 10, were killed, and 17 others—including 14 children—were wounded. Among the injured, two remain in critical condition. The community was left in shock and mourning after the horrific attack.

Authorities identified the shooter as Robin Westman, a local woman in her early 20s who had legally changed her name from Robert in 2020. Westman left behind disturbing online material, including videos with firearms, white supremacist imagery, and anti-religious symbols.

President Donald Trump responded to the tragedy on social media, urging prayers for the victims and their families. He ordered U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff until August 31 at all federal buildings, military posts, and diplomatic facilities nationwide and abroad.
