Why You Should Always Unplug This Kitchen Appliance at Night

The smell hit first, sharp and wrong. One second, my kitchen was quiet. The next, it felt like a ticking bomb. A thin line of smoke. A warped, hot plug. My beloved air fryer – the gadget I trusted every day – had almost turned my home into a fire scene.

I didn’t sleep much that night, replaying the what-ifs. A simple batch of fries, a movie, a forgotten plug – that was all it took to realize how close I’d come to disaster. Learning that other people had similar near-misses, and that firefighters actively warn about countertop appliances like air fryers, made it feel less like bad luck and more like a wake-up call.

Now, I still use my air fryer, but I treat it like the powerful machine it is. I unplug it every night and whenever I leave the house. I check the cord, the plug, and the body for heat marks, cracks, or strange smells.

I wipe out grease before it can build up. Those extra seconds feel like a small trade for knowing I’ve done what I can to protect my home, and everyone sleeping inside it.
