Eye-opening approval ratings reveal what Americans truly think about Trump’s second term

Listening to Donald Trump or his administration, one could conclude his achievements are historic. Trump credits tariffs with boosting revenue, points to low gas prices, and claims his agenda is advancing faster than expected.

Critics argue these claims often rely on exaggeration or selective facts. Trump’s allies have tied their fortunes closely to his, deepening the divide between his self-portrayal and broader public perception.

That gap is clear in public opinion. While Trump presents his second term as a success story, many Americans remain unconvinced. His rapid use of executive power has energized supporters and alarmed critics.

Trump says his leadership has helped prevent new global conflicts, casting himself as a stabilizing force. Yet rhetoric about capturing Venezuela’s president or annexing Greenland has struck some as aggressive.

Domestic unrest and foreign policy disputes have intensified scrutiny. Immigration remains a flashpoint, as do unresolved controversies, including lingering questions around unreleased Epstein-related files.

Despite this, Trump continues to project confidence. His political instincts often allow him to dominate attention, even as criticism mounts.

Recent polling paints a less flattering picture. An AP-NORC survey shows about four in ten Americans approve of Trump’s performance, a figure largely unchanged since early in his term.

As of January 2026, 59 percent disapprove of his job performance. Majorities also disapprove of his handling of the economy, immigration, foreign policy, and trade, underscoring a presidency defined by division rather than broad approval.
