DA Willis Ordered To Pay Big Fine For Violations In Trump Case

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has been ordered to pay over $54,000 in legal fees for violating Georgia’s Open Records Act.

The issue arose when Willis’ office failed to provide records requested by defense attorney Ashleigh Merchant, who represents Michael Roman, a former aide to Donald Trump, indicted in the Georgia election interference case.

The judge noted Willis’ office displayed a clear antagonism toward Merchant’s requests. This ruling adds to challenges Willis has faced, including being disqualified from the Trump case due to an “appearance of impropriety.”

The Georgia Senate recently passed a bill allowing Trump and co-defendants to seek reimbursement for legal fees if a district attorney is disqualified due to misconduct.
