The unbelievable story of Amanda Scarpinati moves me to tears

Burn Survivor Reunites with Nurse Who Cared for Her 38 Years Ago

In 1977, 3-month-old Amanda Scarpinati was hospitalized with third-degree burns after falling into a humidifier. A black-and-white photo captured a young nurse comforting her—a photo Amanda cherished through years of surgeries and bullying.

For decades, Amanda dreamed of finding the nurse. After a 20-year search, she posted the photo on Facebook. It went viral, and within a day, the nurse—Susan Berger—was identified.

She remembered Amanda as a calm, trusting baby and still had the photos herself.

The two were reunited nearly four decades later in an emotional meeting. Susan said she felt honored to be remembered and to represent the many nurses who helped Amanda heal.
