The older brother of newly elected Pope Leo XIV has responded to criticism over a controversial social media post he shared before his brother’s rise to the papacy. In a recent interview, Louis Prevost, 73, stood by the message—while also acknowledging the need for more careful communication in light of his brother’s new global role.
The interview, aired on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” comes just days after Leo XIV, formerly Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, was elected to lead the Catholic Church. Louis, known for his outspoken personality, addressed a past social media post that referenced U.S. political figures in a crude way.
“I wouldn’t have posted it if I didn’t kind of believe it,” Prevost said during the interview, referring to the video clip he shared that criticized former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. While not issuing a full apology, he admitted that recent events had caused him to reconsider how his words might reflect on others, especially his brother.
“Since then, I’ve been very quiet, biting my tongue at some of the stuff out there on social media, because I don’t want to create waves that don’t need to be there,” he added. “He’s going to have enough on his plate.”

Louis Prevost also shared insights into his brother’s beliefs, describing Pope Leo XIV as someone who likely will take a balanced, thoughtful approach in his leadership.
“He’s not going to take the Church hard left,” he said. “I think he’ll stay in the middle.”
Prevost noted that while the pope may be open to reforms—such as expanding the advisory roles of women in the Church—he likely will uphold traditional Catholic teachings on core issues, including marriage and the priesthood.
“He may bring more inclusion, but I don’t think you’ll see him changing Church doctrine overnight,” he added.
