A Wisconsin Dairy Queen Posts ‘Politically Incorrect’ Sign, and the Owner Stands Firm

A sign on the window of a Dairy Queen in Kewaskum, Wisconsin, has caught attention online.

The sign highlights that the restaurant uses phrases like “Merry Christmas,” “Happy Easter,” and “God Bless America,” which some might find politically incorrect.

On Veterans Day, the restaurant offers free sundaes, displays the American flag, and thanks veterans for their service.

Owner Kevin Scheunemann explained that he put up the sign almost four years ago to make it clear that he and his staff are committed to their faith and patriotism.

Scheunemann put up the sign after a customer complained about Christian music playing in the restaurant. Since then, there haven’t been any issues with it.

Recently, the sign got more attention when a tourist from Oregon posted a picture of it on Facebook, sharing concerns that the message might feel exclusive to some people.

The post quickly gained attention before being taken down. While some support the sign’s message, others criticized the person who shared it. Local business owners back Scheunemann’s decision, saying customers can choose to leave if they disagree with the restaurant’s values.

Residents of the small village of Kewaskum seem to view the sign as a simple expression of the owner’s beliefs.

Dairy Queen has clarified that Scheunemann’s approach isn’t supported by the company and that the sign reflects only his personal views.

The company also stated that all franchisees and employees are expected to treat every customer respectfully, regardless of their religious beliefs.
