Buddy was cruelly set on fire and strangled with an extension cord – but look at him today

It’s heartbreaking how cruel some people can be to dogs. Buddy, a happy and gentle dog, was horribly attacked in April 2021 when a child set him on fire, leaving his face severely burned and an extension cord wrapped around his neck. Because the child was under 12, he could not be prosecuted.

Buddy was cared for by the Tunica Humane Society in Mississippi and treated by veterinarians at Mississippi State University. Though his recovery was slow, Buddy showed remarkable progress. His eyesight remained intact, and after months of treatment and skin grafts, he was finally able to open his eyes without heavy sedation.

Buddy’s spirit stayed strong throughout, becoming happier and more playful as he healed. While he still requires special care—like sunscreen and eye drops—his caregivers are hopeful for his future.

The Tunica Humane Society shared that Buddy’s recovery is a miracle, and he continues to inspire many with his resilience and joy.
