Bagworms – What Causes Them, Where They Hide, And How To Get Rid Of Them

Finding a small, tube-shaped shell on a wall or in a corner can be a surprise. At first, it might just look like a piece of dust, lint, or dirt stuck to the surface. However, these tiny cases are often made by indoor bagworms. They are small insects that build moving shelters out of dust, hair, and clothing fibers they find in your house.

These insects love quiet, dark, and messy places where they can grow without being disturbed. You will often find them near ceilings, behind big furniture, or inside closets. Seeing them usually means that certain areas of your home are not cleaned very often, allowing dust and pet hair to pile up.

The good news is that indoor bagworms are mostly just annoying and not dangerous. They do not bite people or pets, and they do not spread diseases. If you find one, you can just pick it up, throw it away, and clean the area around it to remove any spider webs or dust.

To keep them away, all you need to do is keep up with regular house cleaning. Vacuuming behind furniture, dusting high corners, and washing blankets will get rid of the materials they use to build their homes. Keeping your house clean and dry is the easiest way to stop bagworms and other pests from moving in.
